This is a picture of a wrist three months after it was fused for severe pain and stiffness from arthritis. Almost all the major operations on the upper limb and foot are carried out as day cases. This is because of regional anaesthesia, which leaves you pain free for a day or two after the operation. If the operation is carried out in the morning, you will be going home after lunch. However, the day case ward is open until 9 pm. So, you can stay for longer if needed.
